Physiotherapy Solutions South is a mobile clinic providing premium physiotherapy services in the Hobart Metropolitan, Channel and Huon Valley areas south of Hobart, Tasmania.
Andrew Hutton established Sports Point in Ballina, NSW in 1994 and recently relocated to southern Tasmania.
Andrew is an APA Titled Sports Physiotherapist. He has practiced traditional acupuncture and dry needling in a physiotherapy environment since 1994 and has been one of Australia’s leading educators of physiotherapists in these fields for many years. His approach to dry needling, dnp, which utilises traditional Japanese meridian therapy needling techniques within a global musculoskeletal framework remains unique amongst other approaches which are primarily trigger point based and therefore limited in effectiveness.
He works with an emphasis on a pro-active, client based approach to treatment where patient education and participation are complemented by accurate diagnostic skills, excellent hands on technique, and exercise prescription. Clients are offered advice regarding postural, biomechanical and technique improvements, activity or sporting techniques and lifestyle factors which may assist in addressing their needs.
Why see an APA Titled Sports physiotherapist?
A titled sports physiotherapist is someone who is recognised by and within their profession as having reached rigorous standards of expertise and experience in the specialist area of sports physiotherapy.
A sports physiotherapy approach to analysing a pain problem offers something for everyone regardless of age or level or type of activity.
Sports physiotherapists utilise a process of solving pain problems by working out dysfunctions and imbalances in the “body machine” which result in some structures in the body becoming pain sensitive.
They also have an intimate knowledge of tissue healing, tissue pathology and diagnosis and the mechanical requirements of sports and other activities. Many of the treatment techniques and approaches currently used in the wider physiotherapy profession evolved from the sports physiotherapy area of the profession .
A sports physiotherapist is at the forefront of knowledge and development in physiotherapy, and is well equipped to deal with your problem.
Complimentary Therapies:
Treatment with Physiotherapy Solutions South may incorporate needling within a dry needling or traditional oriental acupuncture paradigm of treatment depending on the requirements of each individuals presentation.
Traditional Acupuncture
Since 1994 Andrew has blended traditional oriental acupuncture with a biomechanical western approach to physiotherapy both in clinical practice and in teaching colleagues.
It is not uncommon for the bodies tissue healing and inflammatory response to be less than optimal due to:
• immune system compromise
• autonomic nervous system imbalance
• altered body chemistry
• altered brain chemistry
• hormonal imbalance
In many of these situations the inclusion of acupuncture in the treatment regime provides a regulatory influence allowing a particular condition to progress where biomechanical and locally focused treatment alone has not.
Andrew’s particular approach to acupunture is influenced by Japanese Meridian Therapy which characterises itself from other approaches by the use of many needles with light tissue stimulation and an emphasis on palpation of the bodies tissues and meridians for diagnostic and reassessment purposes.

Dry Needling
In response to patient demand over last 2-3 years, there has been growing interest in the Australian physiotherapy community in ‘dry needling’ (the use of needles in a western physiological paradigm). Physiotherapists have come to recognise the advantages skilful use of needling has in complementing manual techniques, not the least of these being a reduction in post treatment soreness experienced by the patient.
Some of the effects of needling are:
•the stimulation of structural change in the collagen matrix
•alteration in the neural activity in the peripheral and central nervous systems
•local tissue changes such as improved circulation, inflammation regulation and stimulation of tissue repair

Treatment Philosophy
Many health professionals attend to two, three and even more clients simultaneously within a single hour. At Physiotherapy Solutions South we give our attention to one client at a time. We believe that longer, individually focused treatment sessions provide a more effective treatment session. This results in enhanced results, fewer treatments and a greater understanding of vital self management and preventative strategies for clients which is more cost effective in the longer term .
Our individual sessions are 45 min-1 hour in length .
Enhanced Primary Care referrals(EPC)
GP’s are able to provide an EPC referral to physiotherapy allowing consultations fees to be claimed from Medicare however the amount which can be claimed reflects the more common model of physiotherapy care involving shorter consultations.
At Physiotherapy Solutions South we welcome EPC referrals and give the client the option of making up the fee difference themselves or of having a shorter consultation to reflect the fee refunded by Medicare.
Please advise us when making an appointment if you have an EPC referral.
