Balancing structure and energy for pain relief, performance and well being
Sports Point was established in 1994 by Andrew Hutton. During the past 10 years the practice has steadily flourished due to a continued emphasis on ‘hands on’ therapy and informed, client driven, global mechanical improvement, such as postural education and stability, and strength programming.
Sports Point promotes a pro-active client based approach to physiotherapy where patient education and participation are complemented by accurate diagnostic skills, excellent hands on technique and exercise prescription. Patients are educated and re-trained regarding postural, biomechanical and technique improvements and are assisted, where necessary, by a wide range of semi-customized orthotics and orthopaedic appliances.
The ‘Sports Physio’ Advantage:
Our emphasis on sports injuries and practitioner qualification in sports physiotherapy does not exclude clients with non sporting injuries. In fact, recent developments in musculoskeletal treatment and biomechanics actually evolved from sports physiotherapy. As such, sports physiotherapists are at the forefront of knowledge in physiotherapy, and are exceptionally well equipped to deal with general physiotherapy practice.
Complimentary Therapies:
All of the physiotherapists currently working at Sports Point are qualified practitioners in either the dry needling or acupuncture paradigm of treatment. After an initial course of treatment many clients continue with a monthly treatment until the body has completed its change.
Acupuncture
Sports Point has offered acupuncture (the use of needles in an oriental paradigm) for many years. Acupuncture compliments joint and soft tissue mobilisation and helps promote tissue repair and neurological adaptation. There continues to be a growing interest in the traditional acupuncture from clients with a range of issues, from women seeking help with the symptoms of menopause to headache sufferers.
Dry Needling
In response to patient demand over last 2-3 years, there has been growing interest in the Australian physiotherapy community in ‘dry needling’ (the use of needles in a western physiologically based paradigm). Physiotherapists have come to recognise the advantages skilful use of needling has in complementing manual techniques, not the least of these being a reduction in post treatment soreness experienced by the patient.
